Today's weather was rainy and cold, I originally planned to join Barbora and her parents to the beautiful island of Suomenlinna, but since the weather was not in our favour, we decided that we should stay indoors for the entire day.
First off, we went to the Temppeliaukio Church, aka the Stone Church. It is a Lutheran church designed by architects and brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen and opened in 1969. The outlook of the church is really modern. As the name suggests, the interior was built into the rock and is bathed in natural light entering through the glazed dome (very environmentally friendly.

Then we went to the Amos Anderson Museum, and my mind was blown off by the displays of Escher's work!
I seriously think that Escher is quite the revolutionary! He was a Dutch graphic artist, known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints. They feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity and architecture. I mean, you can't really mimic Escher's work and style, you not only need the skills of a painter, you also need a really strong sense of space and dimensions, be able to imagine the impossible and construct it in pen and paper.
(Photo: This is one of Escher's work, called Relativity.)
(Photo: This is another one of his amazing works, called Circle Limit III.)
And believe-it-or-not, although his works revolved around mathematics, he never was the smart-ass kid in school, in fact, he failed classes, had to put in a special school, and later, he couldn't even finish his degree on architecture, he had to study decorative arts!
But sometimes, I wonder if he has any mental illnesses, because his art is so full of details and so out-of-the-box, that I think no ordinary mind can think the same! I seriously think that he thinks differently than the majority of us, no wonder he failed his classes. You can't train a special brain with ordinary methods! He is one special artist!
Then we had pizza, 3 HUGE pizzas!
and cappuccino,
OH, and one more thing, Barbora's parents are HUGE fans of my blog! I bet they are reading this one now! Thanks for everything today!
